Do you know Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds? — I'm showing my age here! Nick's strange baritone singing voice is definitely an acquired taste and I stayed away until I saw him as one of a bunch of big names singing Leonard Cohen songs at a Sydney tribute show. And then I came across the Red Hand Files. When they show up in my feed I stop scrolling and read, and his latest post made me think of photographers, and what you do. What we do too. Nick invites his fans to ask him questions, and every week or so he picks one to answer. He takes this very seriously. This week someone To View More >>

Previous |  Contents | Next Download the eBook I would not sabotage my long-term business in order to survive a panic attack or a short-term crisis. Panic attacks — we all have them “My bookings are down.” “I’ve gotta cut my prices.” “I’ve gotta slash my costs.” We all have anxiety attacks, so maybe this chapter’s for you. Anxiety is worrying in advance, worrying without a plan, psychological rather than rational. And the actions you take while you’ve got the cold sweats could affect your business for a long, long To View More >>

A strong online presence is essential for professional photographers looking to grow their businesses, and one of the most effective ways to do that is through blogging. “Blogging” might sound a bit old-fashioned these days, but really it just means any website or page that you update regularly. It could be about your clients, your images — or interesting stories about either of those. Regularly updating your website will not only showcase your photography skills but also boost your website's search engine rankings. To drive people to your site, earn customers and make sales. We're selling more smaller albums these days, but we're stoked to see people still opting for the big books! Our 18x10 albums allow for lots of images, and high impact story-telling with their radical panoramic pages. And they translate perfectly into copy albums for parents and loved ones too. (If you've included lots of small images we recommend 10in copies for albums of this size.) This 18x10 is by husband and wife team Neil and Katherine of Tandem Photography, Christchurch, New Zealand. Notice how Neil and Katherine have personalised the album for To View More >>

We're big animal lovers at Queensberry! Portrait Albums are perfect for pet and portrait photography, or even a mixture of the two.  We saw Kelly Wolfe's album as it went through the bindery, and thought you might like to see it too! Kelly has recently returned to photography and is based in North Waikato, New Zealand.  Kelly talks about the importance of having product samples. "It helps inspire ideas when we are planning a portrait session together, and also helps them start thinking about what products might best suit their own space and personal tastes – whether To View More >>

I originally posted this on a private Facebook forum, where it got a lot of discussion — so what do you think? I've been watching people asking for feedback on their price lists — asking if their pricing should be online, asking if everything should be shown upfront, and these discussions make me think about the real problem with price lists. The way I see it is, most price lists make it sound like photographers sell USBs full of images, or pieces of paper — even boxes full of pieces of paper — and the problem with that is that To View More >>

By Megan DiPiero   Frustrated with this situation? You’re talking with a hot lead. Conversation is going smoothly. She loves your work! She’s excited about the possibilities for her shoot! And then her biggest question arrives: “How much will this cost?” You tell her your “starting at” prices and then… crickets. Hmmmm… maybe she didn’t love your work as much as she thought. The convo quickly wraps up and you have this pit in your stomach knowing that another one just bit the dust. : ( What to do? Here’s a sales adage for ya. “If To View More >>
